Planetary squares (kamea): history and how sigils are traced on them
What a kamea is
A magic square is a grid where every row, column and diagonal adds to the same total. In 1533 Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy assigned seven squares to the classical planets — from Saturn's 3×3 to the Moon's 9×9. This is a traditional / primary source.
How a sigil is traced
- Turn each letter into a number (Bhavtu offers Pythagorean or alphabet-order mapping — an app-defined choice).
- If a number is larger than the square, reduce it by adding its digits.
- Find each number's cell and draw a line through them in order, marking the start with a circle and the end with a bar.
Which square to pick
Traditionally each planet carries themes — Jupiter for growth, Venus for relationships, Mercury for learning. Treat these as symbolic associations, not predictions.
Try it
Choose Planetary square in the sigil maker, or read the full method on the methods page. For other number-based styles, see How to make a sigil.
