Future-self scripting

Describe a realistic future at 3, 6, 12 or 36 months — situation, habits, support, obstacles and actions — then compare it with today.

Steps

  1. Choose a horizon.
  2. Answer the five structured prompts.
  3. Write or edit your narrative letter.
  4. Compare with current reality, set a review date and link actions.

Background

Writing about a 'best possible self' (King, 2001; Meevissen et al., 2011) has been studied as a brief optimism exercise. Scripting here is framed as planning and imagination, linked to concrete actions — the future is not predetermined.

Limitations

  • A script is a possibility you work towards, not a forecast.
